I read ‘The Wrong Play,’ Book 2 of The Wrong Player Series by C.R. Jane and it is a FANTASTIC 🤩 M/F Sports Romance! (FYI, this is an unbiased, genuine recommendation of a book I loved and there are NO spoilers! 🙌🏻)
Okay! FIRST 👆🏻… I GOTTA say 📣… this is ESSENTIALLY a standalone and you CAN read it without reading Book 1, as it is a different couple 👫and other than knowing that Book 1 couple EVENTUALLY gets together 🔥 (I mean not really a spoiler, as that is the point 👉👃of most Romance books 😆!)… okay, yeah, so this isn’t going to ruin anything for you 🙌🏻! That SAID 🗣, I mean… we ARE talking about C.R. Jane here, people 👏🏻! ALL of her books are GREAT ⭐! So why don’t you pick up Book 1 anyway, and then start this BEAUTY 💋 next?!
Alrighty then 😁! Now that THAT’s settled … back onto THIS fabulous book!
I have to say that I was HOOKED on this story almost from Page 1 😮! Like… straight off the BAT … or should I say, “SNAP” 🏈! (LMAO 😅 see what I did there?! 😆)
Not only is this book an insanely page-turning addiction of a HOT 🥵 athlete in pursuit of our girl… it ALSO has an entirely different layer that I DID NOT expect 😲 (but was so very impressed with how well it was done 👏🏻!)
Okay… to further explain! So the story starts off with the FMC as a young woman and she is being COMPLETELY taken advantage of by an older male … a friend of her parents 🤢. A PROFESSOR😡. And although we see this trope in DARK romance a lot (and I gotta say, I DO enjoy this taboo trope in “fiction” and where it’s meant to be “fiction” in dark romance…. here’s looking at you Penelope Douglas 💞😘) – in THIS story – it’s written in such a way where your heart HURTS 😭 for the FMC, and you are DISGUSTED 🤮 and ANGRY 🤬 at the LOSER 😒 of a pathetic man to prey on a young woman! But it is written SO WELL that you end up nodding to yourself and saying, “see, this is how this kind of thing happens 😢.” It’s quite a feat for an author to write such an emotional & realistic account in such a way, where we understand the FMC to the point that we can see how she fell victim to such a sleazeball! And we FEEL 😭 for the FMC. We want to swoop in there and save her! But we can’t. No one can. And I think that is really a noteworthy and brilliant accomplishment of C.R. Jane… to make us FEEL ❤️🩹.

And want to help.
Really, it’s the mark of a VERY talented writer, in my opinion 💜.
So yeah, my socks 🧦 were knocked STRAIGHT OFF with that opening… the FMC’s backstory 😭. But it’s IMPORTANT TO NOTE, the backstory is NOT the MAIN story! The main story is still one of C.R. Jane’s fantastic Sports Romance masterpieces… just like all the ones you love of hers, time & time again 👏🏻! This story just has an extra TRAGIC layer for our girl’s past… a past that most definitely will pop up in her future 👀… and that combined with our SMOKIN HOT 🔥 MMC football player totally diving off the deep-end (or heading into the endzone 😅) for our girl… (LMAO the sports puns are REAL 😅)… makes this book such a great, page-turning SPICY🌶 read!
So if you loooove a M/F standalone Sports Football 🏈 Romance 💘 where the MMC is HOT 🥵, OBSSESSED (in a good way 🔥), will go to ANY length to get HIS girl… and a FMC with a TRAGIC 😭 past that haunts her (like LEGIT stalks, folks)… then give this a shot! It’s free on KU and is most definitely NOT the Wrong Play of a book for you!
