Authors… this is where you can learn more about the LIVE Author Spotlights & how to sign-up!

The LIVE Author Spotlights are LIVE events streamed to all three FanGrrrl Romance Recs Facebook Groups, FanGrrrl Romance Recs Facebook Page, Insta, and YouTube! The LIVE highlights three separate authors for about 7-10 minutes a piece. Each author has a one-on-one interview with Founder Rebecca Dixon where they can talk about how they started writing, what genre they write, and the books they have currently published. After all three authors have been interviewed separately, a panel format occurs where general topics are discussed. The goal of the panel portion of the LIVE is to answer questions from the LIVE comments and to also spread awareness of topics readers may not be aware (such as the significance of reviews & ratings on Amazon.)

This is a very informal, fun LIVE where Rebecca facilitates each segment in a casual, friendly manner. Rebecca will work with each author ahead of the LIVEs to ensure they are comfortable and ready to roll! She also tries to read a sample of each of the authors books ahead of the live, if they specify which book she should give a shot!

A donation of $15 per author is requested for the LIVE Author Spotlight prior to the LIVE event. The donation is requested to help cover overhead costs for Restream, Mailerlite, etc. This is the only area where Rebecca requests donations. You can donate HERE on the website.

Who can participate in the LIVE Author Spotlight?

Any author in one of the FanGrrrl Romance Recs Facebook Groups can participate in a LIVE Author Spotlight! Rebecca holds two LIVE Author Spotlights each month, one for each of our FanGrrrl Romance Recs Facebook Groups for readers. Authors should ensure they sign-up for the correct group, based on the genre of the book they would like to highlight during the LIVE.

LIVE Author Spotlight Checklist

Do you have a good camera? You can use your phone, but the layout should be horizontal & the picture will be very small on a phone. You won’t be able to see other authors well on the panel, or read comments. Rebecca uses a camera that clips to the top of her computer monitor and is reasonably priced. Here’s the link on Amazon to the camera she uses during her LIVEs, if your interested: NexiGo StreamCam

Do you have good audio? Your computer or phone audio will not be loud or clear enough for the LIVE. Rebecca recommends a headset or airpods.

Do you have a good WiFi or Data signal? This is extremely important. Without a good signal, the LIVE will have delays and quality issues. You may want to broadcast from a hard-wired PC. Each participant on the LIVE should have a minimum of 10Mbps upload speed.

Do you have a good lighting? Often times, participants forget about lighting. If you don’t have great lighting, we won’t be able to see you! There are many different ring lights available on Amazon for a low price. If you plan on doing any more LIVE interviews in your author career, Rebecca recommends purchasing a ring light as an investment. Rebecca uses a ring light (in addition to the one on her camera) that clips to the top of her computer monitor and is reasonably priced. Here’s the link on Amazon to the camera she uses during her LIVEs, if your interested: Ring Light for Monitor

If you are using your phone, do you have a good tripod? A tripod is important if you are using your phone to film, so your camera doesn’t move & so the phone is at the right height! Rebecca uses a portable tripod that can be wrapped around any surface when she films LIVEs from her iPhone. This way, she can broadcast from any room in her house… even her patio! She just wraps it around a tall candle holder, or any surface in her house that gives the right height. The tripod she uses allows for landscape or portrait filming and she actually uses it to film all of her 4K videos on YouTube for her light show. (Tip: if the camera is slightly higher than your forehead and angled so that the lens is slightly facedown- towards your face- it may be a more flattering angle.) Do you have a good background? It’s easy to forget about what’s behind you, when your focused on starting into the camera. But what is behind you is first and foremost in the eyes of the viewers. Make sure your background is pleasing to the eye and represents you. Backdrops of clean offices, your writing space, patio or even kitchen is fine. Rebecca does not recommend your bedroom, bed, or any public area with noise or distractions in the background.

Have you sent Rebecca a book you recommend her to try? Rebecca likes to have some familiary with your work before she goes LIVE with you. Please message her in the Author Spotlight chat she added you to with a book you recommend of yours for her to try.
