I just finished ‘King of Battle and Blood’ by Scarlett St. Clair and oh boy 🙌🏻… I’ll take some Adrian 🔥 with a side of some more Adrian 🔥, pretty pretty please! 🙏🏻😆
So this book is a GREAT 🤩 Romance Fantasy 👏🏻! It’s actually a pretty good combo of Romance Fantasy (castles, horses, dresses, oh my!) with plenty of PRN STEAM 🥵… and I am here for it 🙋🏻♀️, folks! This is actually a really GREAT Enemies-to-Lovers trope with a MMC that just melts your heart ❤️ ! SWOON 😍!
OK so first off! The story 👏🏻! This book takes places in a world similar to ours (but NOT really 😆!) and you can totally tell it’s what I refer to as a “chamber pot 🚽” fantasy… where horses, gowns, swords, princesses, and KINGS 🤴 rule the day! It starts off with an evil 😈 VAMPIRE 🧛 KING (or is he?! 😁) about to conquer our girl’s (FMC’s) kingdom. But WAIT ✋🏻. Maybe our Vamp King is interested in a little bit more than conquering just a kingdom (*cough *cough FMC *cough *cough!) 😆😆😆 So then our righteous girl has a tough decision… sacrifice herself (and her body 😱🔥) to this VAMP KING who is an ENEMY to her kingdom… or die fighting 🤺 ?!
I just have to say right off the bat I LOVED 💜 THIS FMC!! She is BRUTAL with her SHARP words 👏🏻! And it is super refreshing she isn’t the typical fair maiden, damsel in distress type! She is like “you have a problem with my decision, yo?!” (takes out blade, cuts throat 😅!) And let me tell you… praise the book gods that she has no qualms with getting jiggy-with-it and actually likes her appearance 🙌🏻. It’s such a nice change to the typical PRN FMC 👏🏻! She is also super logical 🧠 and well, actually THINKS 💡 things through! She has a super great balance between being understandably stubborn and begrudgingly open-minded. Which I just love in a FMC 🙌🏻!
But the MMC 🔥! Mannnnnn this guy 💜💜💜. I actually knew early on that I loved him 🥳! But I think it was like his 20th (totally guessing here y’all 😆,) swoon-worthy line about halfway through the book… that I had to put the book down and write a post that I was like, IN LOVE with this guy 😆!!! He’s just such a POWERFUL, BRUTAL MMC VAMPIRE KING that puts our girl first EVERY time and it’s actually super endearing 😍🥰😍. Also, he’s super unusual these days with an enemies-to-lovers trope! Most enemies tend to be Grade A as$hats (which I also love 😂)… but not this guy! He’s like “you got a problem with my girl?” (hacks off head 😅) and then to our girl… thumbs her cheek gently, “Are you ok?” … Like 😅… I just LOVE this guy 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. And the STEAM 🔥! Definitely a PRN with this book folks! 🔥🍆🌶
But the plot! Ok this is actually a pretty GREAT story! Luckily, it’s not too difficult of writing (doesn’t get too bogged down in the details and descriptive flourishes that a lot of Romance Fantasies tend to have!) So it’s pretty easy to follow & just page-turn 🙌🏻! It’s also written in the first person (again, absolutely love 💜 that!) And it actually has a pretty cool story that I DID see coming about 1/3 into the story… BUT!!! I totally suspect the author was leading us that way purposefully because then it was totally cool 😎 to experience the FMC figuring it all out along the way! There were also scenes that got me a bit angry 😡 … but thankfully, they were squashed pretty quickly by our kickbutt 🤺 FMC!
So if you love a Romance Fantasy with some STEAM 🔥, a FMC that has no issues being brutal & ruling as a princess 👸 , a MMC that is bada$s but always puts his girl first 🥇, an enemies-to-lovers trope, and a pretty cool story that has hints to what’s really going on and comes full circle at the end… then give this a shot! You never know, it may be the book that just conquers your ❤️!
