I read ‘Hunted by Shadows,’ Book 1 of the Shadowborn series by Erin O’Kane and I LOVED it! (FYI, this is an unbiased, genuine recommendation of a book I loved and there are NO spoilers! 🙌🏻)
Ok FIRST 👆🏻! I sort of stumbled upon this author & book recently when she submitted interest to attend the FanGrrrl Romance Recs 2026 Book Signing Event 😍… and the reading team who is reading every author who submits interest… LOVED ❤️ her book & recommended it to me! So I picked it up and I gotta say… by the end of the sample, I was definitely wanting more👏🏻 !
But! I am busy, busy 🏃🏻♀️ & had to put a 📌 in it 😫. Y’all fellow book lovers know what I mean, right?! Sometimes that little thing called life gets in the way of our favorite pastime (I know, not fair 😭😅!) But you know what?! You KNOW a book is pretty fantastic when you just can’t stop thinking about it… and I gotta tell ya’, I just couldn’t get this book out of my head 🧠 ! So a few days after reading the sample, I went ahead and bought it (it’s not KU… but it is only $3.99)!
And I am SO GLAD I did 👏🏻 !
This book LEGIT 👆🏻 got more & more page-turning with every page 👏🏻!
So! Have you ever read Nora Jacobs by Jackie May?!? It’s a really FANTASTIC Why Choose that I often recommend to people who love streamlined writing, a UF vibe 🤺, and a non-traditional Why Choose where it feels like a M/F series… but by the end the FMC has SEVERAL love interests where she really doesn’t have to choose after all 🥳! Really, this is sort of the definition of a Why Choose and funny enough, this format really isn’t done often 😮. I’ve read A LOT of Why Chooses, and typically the MMCs are all friends 🤝. They have some type of bond 🪢 that pulls them together, and so then it MAKES SENSE for the FMC to step into the group and be a part of their inner circle ⭕️ . And don’t get me wrong… I do love that format too 🙌🏻!
But this approach is really great as well 🙌🏻! This is PERFECT for the UF 🤺lover who knows the FMC is going to end up with just one MMC, but after meeting several MMCs throughout a series that the reader falls in love with… the reader ends up wishing & praying 🙏 for the FMC to have them all! (Um, can we say Sookie Stackhouse anyone! I would have loved for that to be a Why Choose! 👏🏻)
So imagine THAT type of story… except the FMC doesn’t have to choose after all 👏🏻! She gets them all 👊🏻! (And you get a MMC, and you get a MMC, and you get a MMC! Oh wait… errr…. that’s Oprah giving multiple people gifts and we are just talking about ONE FMC getting LOTS of MMCs… umm oopsie daisy 😆)
Omg… sorry for all the Why Choose rambling 😅, I just realized I haven’t mentioned what the book is about 😆 !
Ok! Real quick 👆🏻…
Our girl is a LONE wolf 🐺 shifter FMC who grew up in a TERRIBLE PACK 😭! When the book kicks off, she is in hiding 🙈 & working as a nurse 👩⚕️ . She has very few friends 😭, because she trusts NO ONE. Enter a hot 🥵 Bear shifter that runs a pub 🍺 she frequents (err love me a BIG, burly, cinnamon roll 😍 bear shifter that runs a pub… hot-cha-cha!). Next, enter 👉 her doctor 👨⚕️ co-worker… Mr. McDreamy 😍 or McSteamy 🧖🏻, whichever you McDream 💭 about 😅 (lmao I crack myself up 😆)! But then ✋! We have a cheeky 😜 beta Wolf 🐺 with ALPHA 🥵 vibes that just wants our girl to lend a helping hand (for his pack people! Get thee minds out of thee gutter✊➕🍆😆 !). Throw in a sweet 😍 submissive wolf 🐺 , a broody alpha “touch her and you die wolf!” 💪🏻 annnnnd… (like there is MORE… but I sorta warned you with that whole Nora Jacobs spiel above)… being chased by an obsessive villain 😠 wolf… and our girl has so much testosterone 🍆 around her that her heads spinning 😵💫 & hormones are RAGING 🔥. Good thing she is an alpha 💪🏻 herself to handle all that HEAT🔥!
Really, this book is a lot of page-turning FUN 🤩 . It’s written in British 🇬🇧 English, FYI… so spelling is different than US 🇺🇸 English. There are a couple typos here and there … but honestly 😇, I just didn’t care! The book got better and better and I was totally sucked in! Oh & I even bought Book 2 🙌🏻! So if you love a fast-paced, streamlined PNR/UF combo with lots of great love interests and a kick-butt FMC, then hunt this book down & give it a shot 🏹!
